Jules Sharman Wave-Beach Art Retreat

Five women who participated in the Jules Sharman art retreat are standing on a deck. They are showing their almos-finished art works.
Fabulous work!

In mid-March Jules Sharman lead an art retreat at Tin Dragon Cottages. After some hurdles leading up to the weekend we couldn’t have been more happy with the event!

Feedback about the art retreat

Graham, James and I worked really hard to give our guests the best experience we could. Although we were really tired by the last day, we were also surprised by how much fun we had, too! Jules Sharman likewise enjoyed this animated and talented group of women. So our team is looking forward to the next retreat in September.

Comment from our guests

Everything about this place is magical & in harmony with nature! The cottages are beautiful; fully equipped kitchen facilities including a slow cooker, washing machine, beds very comfortable & clean, hot showers and room to relax. Husband and I attended an Artist’s Retreat for 4 nights which was catered for by the owners. Gourmet meals prepared and planned carefully for those with special dietary requests. The owners went out of their way to ensure our needs were met. Warm friendly people with lots of stories to tell and big hearts. A memorable experience thank you!!

Tin Dragon Cottages was a great venue for a small group art retreat. The hosts, Christine, Graham, and their son James, could not have worked harder to make the group feel welcome and part of their special family. I had hiccups with my travel and I was able to stay an extra night, allowing me to soak up the quiet beauty of the property. Sketching the river and walking around the alpaca paddocks was a real treat. The accommodation was a two bedroom cottage, although I was travelling alone. The cottage was very well appointed, hand made soap included and very comfortable. While the property is set up for independent travellers, self-catering, we were treated to some beautifully prepared meals and great coffee. The artist for the retreat was amazing. Jules Sharman paced the skill learning according to the group and surveyed us all for our particular requests. Each new skill was welcomed by all the participants. The attendees were great company, couldn’t have wished for better a better tutor, or better company, or better hosts. Thank you everyone.

Covid threw a curved ball at us!

Well, it may well have been COVID, because our scheduled artist became too sick to lead the retreat, just three days out. So I can leave it to your imagination to guess the panic we were in! Menus in, food ordered, cottages ready, staff rostered, advertising paid etc. We were emotionally and financially committed.

Jules Sharman rescued the art retreat

Fortunately, Jules is a total professional. After only a few minutes hesitation, she agreed to step up to replace our scheduled artist. She declared she couldn’t let our business suffer the dire consequences of our first retreat being cancelled. So, after two days of living on our mobile phone, we were back on track!

During a time of pandemic we are reminded of how important it is to risk manage potential loss of staff – including ourselves and our Artist!

Three-day art retreat

Jules only had two days to organise herself, and her family.

The art retreat space is set up with easels and paints on tables. Jules Sharman is texting on her mobile phone.

The art retreat participants bonded immediately. They even invited their hosts to join them for dinner! We were so impressed by the lively dinner conversation. It was terrific for our son to be involved in respectful, but at times contoversial topics of conversation, too.
